I think organic empires can terraform machine worlds. So you want to de-Gaiafy a planet, hand it over to robots with the proper ascendancy traits and wait, then take it back and terraform again.... Or let the Gray Tempest bomb it to bits. If you do just spend it on the research boost, that's about the only thing they are good for if you don't have a recurring source.
